Allergy Bed Encasings: Measuring Mattress Depth
Allergy Control® Dust Mite Encasings for Your Mattress
Allergy covers for your mattress are available in different depths to make sure that they can fully zip around and cover your entire mattress. Measuring the mattress depth looks at the measurement of the side of mattress, when no linens, blankets, mattress pads or other bedding is on the mattress. Measuring your mattress to choose the appropriate depth for your allergy bed encasing is an important step to take before you order so that you know what allergy cover you need.
Allergy Control® allergy-proof encasings come in a variety of depths to suit today’s mattresses. The most standard size of allergy encasing is 9” depth, and for deeper mattresses, we offer Allergy Control® Pristine COMPLETE encasings and Allergy Control® COTTON PURE encasings in 12” depth and 15” depth. For Queen, King and California King mattresses, we also offer Allergy Control® Pristine COMPLETE encasings in 18” depth.
Measuring Mattress Depth:
- Measure only your bare mattress, by removing your mattress pad, linens, blankets and any other bedding.
- Use a ruler or tape measure (as shown) to measure the depth from seam to seam.
- Because a pillow top mattress can extend higher than the measurement from seam to seam, we often recommend placing a ruler on a hard edge of your box spring or bed frame and estimating the highest point of your mattress (including the pillow top).
- Using this guideline, measure in several places to ensure that you have the right fit.
- If you believe the measurement falls between two depths, we recommend going with a larger depth as the Allergy Control® encasing must zip fully around your mattress. If the size is too small, the encasing will not zip closed.
Measuring Box Spring Depth:
Box springs are typically either 9” in depth, or some new box springs are made to 4” or 5” depths. These 4” to 5” low profile box springs are often designed for use with very deep mattress, so that the entire bed does not become too high off the ground. Please make sure to also measure your box spring depth for your allergy encasing.
- Measure only your bare box spring.
- Use a ruler or tape measure to measure the depth from edge to edge (similar to measuring your mattress depth).
Note: King mattresses take 2 Long Twin box spring encasings. CA King mattresses take 2 CA Long Twin box spring encasings.
