Microfiber and Cotton Allergy Encasings (Membrane-Free Encasings) or Membrane Encasings
The most comfortable allergy encasings available are made from allergy barrier fabrics that are so tightly woven that they block allergy particles. These allergy fabrics may be patented or include a sophisticated weave that create extremely small pore sizes that block allergy particles. For tightly woven allergy barriers, the smaller the pore size, the better the protection against allergy particles. For protection against dust mite allergens and pet dander, a pore size below 5 microns is required. For dust mite allergy protection, a pore size below 10 microns is required. Our Allergy Control® Pristine COMPLETE microfiber encasings or Allergy Control® COTTON PURE encasings are both tightly woven to block allergy particles yet are made of soft and breathable fabrics that guarantee sleeping comfort.
Membrane encasings offer effective allergy protection against dust mites and pet dander, however these encasings do not have the comfort and easy care on membrane-free encasings. Membrane encasings (or laminate encasings) contain a urethane backing that provides the allergy protection with an upper layer of fabric. Allergy Control® ECONOMY membrane encasings are superior to other membrane encasings that may be hot or noisy to sleep on. A membrane encasing can be more noticeable on the bed than a membrane-free encasing, especially on the pillow where the encasing may balloon. Also, membrane encasings require more delicate care to protect the membrane. We recommend membrane encasings for the box spring, where comfort is not a factor. Membrane encasings may also be used for a child’s bed for some level of waterproof protection.

Allergy Control® Pristine COMPLETE encasing covers are made of a polyester microfiber that is so tightly woven that the pore size between the fabric fibers is only 2.4 microns. This small pore size means that larger allergy particles such as dust mite allergens or pet dander are blocked by the fabric so that you are protected from these allergens in your bed.
